The Claude.com domain name was moved from Network Solutions to corporate domain registrar MarkMonitor a month ago, as I discovered. Prior to being registered with Mark Monitor’s privacy service, DNStination Inc., the domain name was registered under Whois privacy. Using the Registrant Monitor tool from DomainTools, I became aware of the domain name transfer.
The Anthropic AI conversation platform is called Claude, as I explained in my post regarding the domain name transfer. Claude.ai is the domain name that the company uses for this platform.
The nameservers for Claude.com switched from DomainControl to Cloudflare over the last day or so. Actually, the Cloudflare nameservers Isla.ns and Randy.ns seem to be the same for Claude.ai as they are for Claude.com. Additionally, using this tracking redirect url: https://claude.ai/login?returnTo=%2F%3Fredirect%3Dclaude.com, the domain name started to forward to Claude.ai. I’m fairly certain that Anthropic purchased Claude.com in light of this and the fact that the domain name is registered with MarkMonitor.
Notably, in order to match their.ai domain names, some of the biggest AI companies have begun purchasing brand-matching.com domain names. Perplexity just purchased Perplexity.com, and OpenAI purchased Chat.com and ChatGPT.com.
