Grok.com acquired by xAI

Grok.com

Another well-known AI company purchased the.com domain name that matched its brand. This time, the source is Grok.com, which xAI purchased for its Grok chatbot. Late yesterday afternoon, the acquisition was initially announced and circulated on X:

Currently, whois records are “redacted for privacy.” Nevertheless, according to a DomainTools historical Whois record, the domain name was momentarily registered to xAI at GoDaddy in early December:

The domain name was previously registered at Tucows under Whois privacy.

I contacted Media Options’ Andrew Rosener after reading the story regarding Grok.com to inquire about whether he mediated the transaction. I am aware that Andrew has previously assisted Elon Musk with domain name purchases, such as the purchase of Starlink.com and X.com from PayPal. Andrew informed me that he was unable to comment.

It’s unclear if Media Options was involved in the Grok.com domain acquisition, but this is another instance of a well-known AI company purchasing its brand-matching.com domain name. Among other excellent assets, Anthropic seems to have purchased Claude.com, Perplexity purchased Perplexity.com, and OpenAI purchased Chat.com and ChatGPT.com.

We at ebharat, are on a mission to educate masses about internet, domain names and their potential.
