Updating Address Without a Rental Agreement
If you’ve shifted to a new city or home but don’t have a formal rental agreement, you can still update your address in your voter ID card. The Election Commission of India (ECI) allows citizens to use alternate documents for address proof while applying for a correction or change of address.
Step-by-Step Process on NVSP Portal
- Visit NVSP Portal
- Go to nvsp.in.
- Select Form 8 – Correction/Change of Address.
- Fill Basic Details
- Enter your EPIC number, name, state, and constituency details.
- Upload Alternate Address Proof
Instead of a rental agreement, you can upload:- Aadhaar card with updated address
- Latest electricity, water, or gas bill
- Bank passbook/statement showing current address
- Passport or driving license with new address
- Submit Application
- Verify details and submit the form.
- Save the application reference number to track status.
Offline Method Without Rental Agreement
- Collect Form 8 from your local Electoral Registration Office (ERO).
- Attach any of the above alternative documents.
- Submit it to the Booth Level Officer (BLO) in your area.
- You’ll receive confirmation once your address is updated in the electoral roll.
Your voter ID must reflect your correct residential address for you to be eligible to vote in your new constituency. Many Indians who relocate for jobs, studies, or family reasons often don’t have a rental agreement, but with Aadhaar, utility bills, or other government documents, you can still update your voter ID seamlessly.
